Unfortunately, the highly sought-after iPhone is still quite expensive. For this reason, many Apple fans—especially children and teenagers—prefer to opt for the significantly less expensive iPod touch. This device can also launch apps, surf the internet via Wi-Fi, and take photos. Users have so far had to forego making phone calls.
But that’s now over. XXL Services GmbH is offering the new “iPod touch 2 Phone” gadget exclusively for Europe. This two-part protective case holds the iPod touch and effectively protects it from scratches and other damage. The case also includes an additional battery, allowing the iPod touch to double its battery life.
The highlight: The protective case essentially turns the iPod touch into an iPhone—and even enables the mobile gaming console to make phone calls. For this purpose, the case offers a slot for inserting any SIM card. The only important thing is that the iPod touch is a jailbroken device, which you have performed at your own risk. An app from the Cydia store handles the digital coordination between the iPod touch and the gadget.
Afterward, you can use the iPod touch as a fully-fledged mobile phone. It can make phone calls, surf the Internet, send text messages, and use GPRS networks. Ringtones are included, there’s a radio tuner, and you can also use your contact list to make phone calls.
Ralf Bürger, Managing Director of XXL Services GmbH, the responsible company, said: “Many teenagers already use a jailbroken iPod touch, so the basic requirements for using our ‘iPod touch 2 Phone’ are already met. With our gadget, all iPod owners can now also use the phone feature. This is a feature that all iPod touch owners have been waiting for in vain. And the best part: With the protective case, the iPod touch actually looks almost like the iPhone.”
